CHAPTER EIGHT

Maddie couldn’t believe it either when Caitlin told her what had happened between Catherine and Andrew that night. However, she kept her own reaction to their tentative first steps at loving to herself. That was something Caitlin doubted she could ever share with anyone, because it frightened her, drawing her even deeper into his life.

Perhaps it was because she had little else to occupy her mind right now, but she knew she was becoming more drawn to Drew than she should, feeling more for him than she would have had she met him under normal circumstances. She now knew she’d been Catherine, a young woman with more gumption and determination than Caitlin had felt in her entire life. It all felt too real to merely be dreams, which meant she had to believe in reincarnation and Heaven and Hell.

When she’d first started dreaming about Catherine, Caitlin had felt only pity, thinking her weak and accepting of her servile status. Now she knew she was stronger than Caitlin would ever be, making the most of her life as a medieval Lady in early Tudor England.

“Which begs the question, what on earth went wrong?” Maddie said in the end.

“Why should anything have gone wrong?” Caitlin asked.

“Demeana. Five hundred years of torture,” Maddie reminded her. “He obviously did something to piss off the Gods.”

Caitlin sighed. She’d been feeling so good about her last dream that she’d completely forgotten about Drew’s penance. It made her realize her medieval dreams were far from over.

“Anyway, if he’s feeling up to it, I suggest we show him the metropolis of Lithgow today. What do you think? Fancy a trip into town?” Maddie asked.

“Yes, that would be nice. I’ll just go and have my shower. Maybe one of us should wake him up. He really seems to like sleeping in. You’d think if he only had a month, he’d be trying to make the most of it.”

“After what he’s been though I’m not really surprised he needs his beauty sleep. You go and wake him up. I’ve got a load of washing to put on and a couple of other chores to do before we go.”

“Need a hand?” Caitlin offered.

“Nah. You’re the guest.” Maddie waved her off.

Caitlin took what she needed to the bathroom, before she decided to check on Drew. As she pushed open the door to his room, she noticed that he was already awake, lying in the bed, gazing back at her through half-open eyes. Once again she felt her insides lurch with desire. He looked just like he had in her dream; all tender eyes and sensual smiles.

“Good morning,” she said, forcing the sensation down. Now wasn’t the time to get all hot under the collar over a sexy man on a bed, but she suspected she would always have that reaction to him, dreams or no dreams. Memories, she corrected herself, Memories of her past life as his wife. “Maddie suggested we go to town today. Are you up for it?”

“That would be wonderful.
